Andy Austin

After circling Northern New England for the better part of my radio career, I’m pumped to be part of the team at WOKQ. It’s a homecoming of sorts, as OKQ has always been in my life. It’s the first station I remember listening to. Cutting wood with my dad, OKQ was on in the neighbor’s shop, and etc. Raised on the best Alabama, Ronnie Milsap, Larry Gatlin, Randy Travis, George Strait…all of it. Plus, wanting to be in broadcasting since I can remember, it’s no doubt this station was a big influence. When I’m not part of the end of your workday, I’m keeping track of what’s going on in the world of racing. Local, NASCAR, Indy, dirt, and etc. Also, I’m (what I want to call) an avid road biker. The seacoast has a ton of great riding, and I’m looking forward to getting back on these roads. That’s enough for here. Would You Rather? See A Bad Show With A Band’s Original Lineup Or A Good Show With Some Subs?

It's the summer concert season, and this debate has popped up yet again. What's worse? Seeing a band that is merely a brand, or guys collecting a bigger check because IT'S THEM!? The version with one original member, but a ton of skilled sidemen on salary? Or, sloppy, possibly belly out their shirt guys who hate each other for the 22.5 hours they're not on stage, but were part of a seminal era.

Ronnie Wood Chose Hair Over Chemotherapy

Ronnie Wood has been rocking the Mod hairstyle since he rose to fame in the 60's with the Jeff Beck Group. He's been a like minded band in since the mid 70's, as the rest of the Rolling Stones seem equally content with keeping the same haircut for decades on end. The cut has become so much a part of his existence, that he recently made the decision to decline chemotherapy in order to save it!

Throwback Thursday: Ozzy and Def Leppard Play Maine In 1981

This week in 1981, Ozzy Osbourne stumbled through Maine. The Blizzard Of Ozz tour stopped at the Cumberland County Civic Center on the 5th, and the following night in Bangor. Surprisingly, the Civic Center was only half full.

New Music Friday: Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper has released his 26th studio album titled Paranormal. Teaming once again with producer Bob Ezrin, it's Cooper's first non concept record in 12 years. Ironically, it's also his most cohesive piece in that same time frame. Old school guitar sounds fly, with lyrical nods to his past, and he even brings back a few old friends.

Foreigner Reunite With Lou Gramm

2017 has been another big year for the reunion. Guns 'N Roses have stolen much of the spotlight with round 2 of the Not In This Lifetime tour, and the 30th anniversary of Appetite For Destruction. Since 2003, the Mick Jones led Foreigner have been filling concert halls with someone other than the singer who was the voice of hits like "Juke Box Hero," "I Want To Know What Love Is," and "Hot Blooded." While former Hurricane singer Kelley Hansen has done an admirable job in the role, die hard fans still longed for the original lead singer. Last week, they got it.

Appetite For Destruction at 30 – Andy Austin Looks Back [VIDEO]

I was in the 8th grade. Struggling in class, the English teacher assigned us to write a short story for a lesson I've likely long forgotten. Vaguely remembering the project, it had a story-line which one day wouldn't be unlike that of Tom Hanks's Cast Away. In this story, when the main character eventually returned to the mainland, he only knew how much time had past since the "DJ on the oldies station played Sweet Child 'o Mine, the #1 song 25 years ago." I remember reading the story in class, and thinking how far 25 years was. Plus, laughing at the absurdity of an oldies station playing a Guns n' Roses song. The class laughed, and now I'm writing about them again. This time, to celebrate the album's 30th anniversary.
