Andy Austin

After circling Northern New England for the better part of my radio career, I’m pumped to be part of the team at WOKQ. It’s a homecoming of sorts, as OKQ has always been in my life. It’s the first station I remember listening to. Cutting wood with my dad, OKQ was on in the neighbor’s shop, and etc. Raised on the best Alabama, Ronnie Milsap, Larry Gatlin, Randy Travis, George Strait…all of it. Plus, wanting to be in broadcasting since I can remember, it’s no doubt this station was a big influence. When I’m not part of the end of your workday, I’m keeping track of what’s going on in the world of racing. Local, NASCAR, Indy, dirt, and etc. Also, I’m (what I want to call) an avid road biker. The seacoast has a ton of great riding, and I’m looking forward to getting back on these roads. That’s enough for here. Throwback Thursday: 1980 – Jefferson Starship Plays Maine

This week in 1980, Jefferson Starship played the Cumberland County Civic Center. By this time, they were about 110 degrees towards what would be a 180 degree steer from Jefferson Airplane to Starship. I say 110, because even after they reformed the band as Jefferson Starship, some of Airplne's style was retained the first few years. By 1980, both Marty Balin and Grace Slick had left, and Mickey Thomas entered the picture. The band were riding newfound success with a streamlined sound on Freedom at Point Zero.

Why Are There Doughnuts In Mill Park?

Yesterday, I stopped down to Mill Park for another one of out great Prize Patrols. Lots of folks were already lined up for the weekly Farmers Market. After wheeling the Capital truck around, I found an odd discovery. Two or three random doughnuts scattered on the ground. Thinking nothing of it, I continued. This is when things took a turn for the strange.

Tom Petty And Stevie Nicks Duet In London

Did you know Stevie Nicks almost joined The Heartbreakers? After they recorded "Stop Dragging My Heart Around," Nicks said she even would've left Fleetwood Mac if offered. She told Rolling Stone,  "Had Tom Petty called me up one day and said, ‘If you want to leave Fleetwood Mac to be in the Heartbreakers, there's a place for you,' I might well have done it!” They have frequently collaborated over the years, and recently met up again in London on the Heart-breakers 40th Anniversary Tour, which plays Boston on the 20th.

Lost Your Keys In Augusta? Police Might Be Able To Help

Once. A. Week. If you are like me, and are a habitual animated talker, (think; hands flying everywhere) you often misplace your keys. This can be because you take them out of your pockets with keys in hand, set them down, and to the next room you go. Or, you change clothes multiple times during a day...or you're just out of excuses. You're just forgetful? Okay, that's more accurate. Now we're getting somewhere.

Why Ace Frehley Should Be In KISS

If you're Ace Frehley and Gene Simmons, why continue the cat and mouse game? They've traded barbs in the press, seemingly made up, warred again, and now are working together? Wait, two guys from KISS's classic lineup are working together again, but NOT on KISS material? Shheeesh. This, a year after Ace and Paul Stanley collaborated on new music. Being an old school KISS fan, it makes sense these guys get in a room for a number of reasons. Here are three.
