NBC Has Tried Reviving ‘Frasier’ for Years, But No ‘Real Interest’

Frasier Revival NBC

NBC really went all-in on its revivals with a Will & Grace renewal and talk of more 30 Rock and The Office, but one must-see-comedy in particular can hear the blues a-calling. A new report suggest NBC has had conversations to revive Frasier for years, albeit with one notable hitch.

TVLine took the revival question to NBC boss Bob Greenblatt, who acknowledged that they’d spoken to executive producer David Lee and “put out feelers about [it] over the years.” Surprisingly, Greenblatt revealed “I don’t think there’s any real interest” from those involved, as “I think everyone’s moved on.”

More soberingly, co-creator David Angell and his wife Lynn were killed in the September 11 attacks, and Greenblatt noted that neither David Lee nor fellow creator Peter Casey were likely to start up the series again without him. For its part, Frasier ended with its eleventh season in 2004, and the cast reunited for promotional purposes as recently as 2013 (and once for a Simpsons episode as well).

Kelsey Grammer himself is also busy with Amazon’s The Last Tycoon, while co-star David Hyde Pierce put in a cameo with this past weekend’s Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later. Stay tuned for the latest on any and all NBC revivals in the meantime.
