According to the KJ, Hallowell Police Chief Eric Nason, who has been with the department since 1987, is set to retire in just a couple of months.

The department is looking to have a replacement hired by April 1st. The salary for the position is $64,760.

The population of Hallowell is 2,300 and there are 10 positions within the Hallowell Police Department. Those positions are three full-time officers, a patrol sergeant and five reserve officers. A reserve is an officer who works a part-time schedule.

Nason's career and character were called into question in 2014 when a female officer accused him of sexual assault. After a months-long investigation by Maine State Police concluded with no charges being brought forward, he was reappointed as chief in 2015.
