‘The OA’ Fans Buy Times Square Billboard In Attempt to Save Netflix Show
Fans of The OA have not reacted well to Netflix’s cancelation of the series after just two seasons. A few days ago, they picketed Netflix over their decision to end the sci-fi series, created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij. When that didn’t work, they went further.
Now they’ve purchased a billboard in Times Square to continue petitioning the streaming giant to reverse its decision and let Marling and Batmanglij continue their story. It’s on the corner of 42nd and 7th in New York City — where fans will be holding a “flash mob” tonight to draw more attention to their cause.
Here’s the billboard in Times Square; fans raised over $5,000 to put it up in the heart of Manhattan:

Fans have also been flooding just about every Netflix social media post with pleading messages about the show, all with the hashtag #SaveTheOA. Article about updates to the Netflix interface? #SaveTheOA! A clip of Dave Chappelle doing standup? #SaveTheOA! Netflix made an entire Breaking Bad movie in secret and it’s coming out in less than two months? #SaveTheOA!!!!!
Will it work? I doubt it. But perhaps the passion of these fans will inspire someone else to give Marling and Batmanglij the funding they need for their next project.
